Myself and a friend are planing a 6 day bikepacking trip in the Tankwa Karoo national park later this month.
Going to be an awesome trip, completely unsupported in the middle of nowhere.
Planning on doing about 60km a day, and its going to be HOT, with precious few water points in the park!!!
One problem Ive had to overcome is that some of the campsites are extreamly remote and are litterally a braai place next to a tree miles from anywhere. They have no facilities and no water and are intended for the 4x4 commuity who usually travel with a couple hundred liters of water in their tanks.
To get around this I have decided to do two water drops before we begin our cycling adventure, dropping 25L of water at each of the two remote campsites we are using, so we will have enough water to rehydrate when we get to the camp, make our dinner and drink during the night, maybe even a quick 5L pocket shower, as well as fill up camel backs and waterbottles before we leave the next day for the next dry 60km.
The Tankwa Karoo is a huge park and over the 6 days of riding we very seldom cross our own tracks.
Looking so forward to it, cant wait!!!
Pete, how was your trip? Please share some pictures and stories about your experience :)
